Sustainable packaging is ensuring a brand’s packaging components are part of a system that not only maintains a sustainable flow of materials but is also economically viable in all parts of the packaging supply chain.
The Sustainable Packaging Coalition suggests goals to consider in the journey to sustainable packaging. Packaging must meet market criteria for performance and cost yet be sourced, manufactured, transported, and recycled using renewable energy or maximize the use of renewable or recycled source materials.
But there is no one silver bullet for sustainable packaging. Each alternative must be weighed against your product, your distribution and retail requirements, as well as available technological resources and disposal options.
